Are you researching dog breeds to determine the best breed for you and your family? We are always adding to our descriptive list...

Dog Breeds

There are so many dog breeds to choose from and each one has their own "personality" traits. It is best to do your research if you are thinking about adopting a dog. If you do your research, you will most likely end up choosing the best type of dog for you and your family.

dogs, dalmation, westie, golden retriever There are too many abandoned and unwanted dogs in shelters because people did not do their research before adopting the dog. Once they started living with the dog, these people found out that he or she wasn't the right choice for them. The reasons are many: allergies, too active, not active enough, too much work, doesn't fit into our lifestyle, doesn't listen, too difficult to train, etc...

If you are planning to adopt a pure-breed, there is alot of information in libraries, online and in books that you can purchase that will give you all the information you need to know beforehand.

If you are planning to adopt a mixed-breed, you should visit the dog a few times, interact with the dog, speak to whoever has the dog at the time to find out what the dog is like.

  • Is he/she friendly?
  • Is he/she aggressive?
  • What age is he/she?
  • How much work does he/she require? How much grooming?
  • How much does he/she eat?
  • What is his/her medical history (if available)?
  • What is the mixture of breeds in the dog? What are the breeds like?
This is just a sampling of questions you may want to ask about dog breeds. Ask any and all the questions that you can think of. The more you know before deciding to adopt the dog, the more likely you will have chosen the best breed of dog for you and your family.
